Embracing the Healing Buffet: Building my own Holistic Health Temple

And again… I have cancer…
So… I’ve decided to "throw everything at it, per se.
You might remember my 5 parts Healing Plan (if you don’t, please read my previous blog posts!)
1. MEDICAL Healing: allow all the modern medicine and welcome it.
2. HOLISTIC Healing: Investigate all the alternative medicines and implement all of it (or as much as I feel like implementing!).
3. MAGIC Healing: work on the mindset and energetics with any and all tools available to me.
4. SELFISH Healing: make myself a priority AND ask, allow and welcome help and support.
5. JOYFUL Healing: Find the joy in all of it.

Today I want to discuss what I mean by "holistic healing".

For me, holistic means…
Throwing everything at it.
I’m going to try everything that resonates, everything that feels right.
Because yes, step one of the holistic plan is research, and feeling into it, trusting my gut to know which of the literally thousands healing modalities are for me now.
Not everything is good for me.
But everything that feels right… I will try.
Why not?
It’s not like I could be "too healed" (lol!)
I’ve spent a few days researching the internet and getting advice from a lot of you…
Here’s what I discovered… that hopefully will help me (and you?!) build my personalized Healing Temple and create a playful approach to Holistic Health.

So welcome, fellow adventurers, to the boundless game area of holistic healing, where the possibilities are as vast as the pixelated horizon! Imagine standing at the threshold of a virtual world, controller in hand, surrounded by an infinite assortment of building blocks waiting to be discovered. Each block represents a unique facet of holistic wellness, from the gentle flow of yoga to the soothing power of herbal remedies. It's like stepping into a sandbox of healing potential, where you're free to explore, experiment, and create your very own healing temple.From conventional medicine to a smorgasbord of holistic modalities, it's like being a kid in a candy store, except the candy promises to cure your ailments and align your chakras. But hey, who says healing can't be fun? So, grab your tray and let's dive into why throwing everything at holistic health might just be the best course of action. Spoiler alert: we might even throw in the kitchen sink!

First things first, let's talk about the game mechanics. In this expansive world, you're not just collecting any old blocks – you're gathering the building blocks of holistic health. From yoga poses to herbal remedies to energy work, each block offers its own special powers and benefits. It's like assembling a team of superheroes, except instead of capes and masks, they come armed with crystals and essential oils.As you build your healing temple, you find joy and satisfaction in the process of creation. Each block you add contributes to the strength and resilience of your sanctuary, providing support and nourishment for your body, mind, and spirit. And just like in a game, the possibilities are endless – you can continue to explore new areas, discover new blocks, and expand your healing temple as you grow and evolve on your journey.

Now, as you journey through this immersive landscape, you'll encounter all sorts of challenges and obstacles. Maybe you're battling stress monsters or navigating through the murky waters of anxiety swamp. Fear not, brave soul, for you have your trusty toolkit of healing blocks at your disposal. Need to vanquish a particularly pesky stress demon? Try a combination of deep breathing exercises and calming herbal teas. Feeling overwhelmed by the chaos of modern life? A dose of meditation and sound healing might be just what the healer ordered.

But here's where the game truly comes alive: in the freedom to forge your own path. Unlike the linear progression of traditional healing modalities, in this game, you're the master architect of your own destiny. You get to choose which blocks to collect, how to arrange them in your healing temple, and which quests to embark upon next. It's like embarking on a grand adventure where every decision you make shapes the landscape of your journey.

And let's not forget the importance of playfulness and joy in the quest for healing. After all, what's the point of embarking on an epic adventure if you can't have a little fun along the way? So go ahead, let loose your inner child and indulge in a bit of whimsy. Healing doesn't have to be all serious business and solemn ceremonies. It's okay to inject a little playfulness and humor into the mix. After all, laughter is the best medicine, right? Indulge in some laughter yoga or have a dance party with your favorite healing crystals. Who knows, you might just discover that joy is the ultimate healing potion, capable of healing even the deepest wounds of the soul.

Here is a (short!) list of healing modals that might come in handy…

1. Homeopathy: A system of alternative medicine based on the principle of "like cures like", where highly diluted substances are used to stimulate the body's natural healing processes.

2. Reiki: A Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.

3. Acupuncture: A key component of traditional Chinese medicine involving the insertion of thin needles into the body at specific points to relieve pain and treat various conditions.

4. Ayurveda: An ancient Indian system of medicine that focuses on a holistic approach to health, emphasizing the balance between the mind, body, and spirit through techniques such as herbal remedies, diet, and yoga.

5. Herbalism: The study and use of plants for medicinal purposes, including the use of herbs, flowers, roots, and bark to promote healing and wellness.

6. Yoga Therapy: A form of therapy that uses yoga postures, breathing exercises, meditation, and guided imagery to improve mental and physical health.

7. Meditation: A practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state.

8. Crystal Healing: A pseudoscientific alternative medicine technique that employs stones and crystals as healing tools, based on the belief that they possess energy that can positively affect mental, physical, and spiritual health.

9. Sound Healing: The therapeutic application of sound frequencies to the body and mind of a person with the intention of bringing them into a state of harmony and health.

10. Aromatherapy: The use of aromatic plant extracts and essential oils for healing and relaxation purposes, often through inhalation or topical application.

11. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): A broad range of medicine practices sharing common concepts that have been developed in China and are based on a tradition of more than 2,000 years, including herbal medicine, acupuncture, cupping therapy, and qigong exercises.

12. Chiropractic Care: A form of alternative medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, to promote proper alignment and overall health.

13. Holistic Nutrition: A holistic approach to diet and food choices, emphasizing whole foods, nutrient-dense ingredients, and mindful eating to promote overall health and well-being.

14. Energy Healing: Various modalities focused on manipulating the body's energy fields to promote healing, balance, and well-being, including practices like Pranic Healing, Quantum Touch, Healing Touch and more.

15. Reflexology: A practice involving the application of pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears to alleviate symptoms of various conditions and promote overall health and well-being.

16. Naturopathy: A system of alternative medicine based on the theory that diseases can be successfully treated or prevented without the use of drugs, by techniques such as control of diet, exercise, and massage.

17. Tai Chi: An ancient Chinese tradition that involves a series of slow, focused movements and deep breathing, promoting relaxation, balance, and overall health.

18. Holistic Psychotherapy: A form of therapy that integrates traditional psychotherapy techniques with complementary and alternative approaches, addressing mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of well-being.

19. Craniosacral Therapy: A gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction, and improve overall health and performance.

20. Hypnotherapy: A therapeutic technique that uses hypnosis, a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, to promote behavioral change, alleviate symptoms, and enhance overall well-being.

21. Bach Flower Remedies: Natural essences made from flowers, used to address emotional well-being. Developed by Dr. Edward Bach, each remedy targets specific emotions or personality traits. Taken orally, they aim to restore emotional balance and promote inner peace.

Now, I know what you're thinking. With so many blocks to choose from, how do you know which ones are right for you? Well, my friend, the answer is simple: follow your intuition.
